WHB AND KEYFIELD RECOGNISED BY MALAYSIA BOOK OF RECORDS FOR PIONEERING OFFSHORE SOLAR ENERGY MILESTONE

KUALA LUMPUR – Worldwide Holdings Berhad played a central role in the successful implementation of a pioneering solar photovoltaic (PV) project on Keyfield Wisdom, the largest vessel owned by Keyfield International Bhd. The 500-man accommodation work barge now features a hybrid solar energy system, thanks to this collaboration.

Renowned for its expertise in energy efficiency and sustainability, Worldwide Holdings served as the EPCC (engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning) partner for the project. The system includes a 121.2kWp solar hybrid installation paired with a battery energy storage system, aimed at reducing reliance on onboard diesel generators, thereby lowering fuel consumption and carbon emissions.

Alif Shah, Chief Operating Officer of Worldwide’s Renewable Energy Division, said: “As Keyfield’s EPCC partner, we were instrumental in delivering this sustainable energy solution. It reflects our commitment to driving green energy initiatives and supporting the maritime sector in adopting cleaner, more environmentally friendly practices.”

He highlighted that a major challenge was time constraints, as the Keyfield Wisdom was only available for installation during its scheduled maintenance in Labuan. “Despite the limited timeframe, we completed the work 15 days ahead of schedule, thanks to strong coordination and dedication by all involved. Receiving recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records was a rewarding bonus,” he added.

Keyfield International Bhd emphasized that the project was a self-initiated effort to improve operational energy efficiency while aligning with the sustainability goals of key clients such as Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd and Sarawak Shell Bhd/Sabah Shell Petroleum Co Ltd.

Mohd Erwan Ahmad, Keyfield’s Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director, remarked: “By adopting innovative solutions within the spatial limitations of our vessel, we’re committed to contributing to global climate action while sustaining long-term operational excellence. This solar PV system also benefits our clients by lowering operating costs when chartering our energy-efficient vessels.”

The initiative earned Keyfield Wisdom recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records for having the most solar panels with battery storage installed onboard an offshore vessel.
